Awareness workshop on Research Gateway and Distance Learning Education held at UGC
Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN), a component of Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of UGC will develop two software packages for research and distance learning education for the universities. BdREN organized a daylong workshop titled Awareness on Research Gateway and Distance Learning Education for discussion about the concept, technical issues and implementation strategy of the software packages at UGC auditorium today (16.01.2018). BdREN in association with university and industry will develop the software packages. Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC graced the function as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Member, UGC, presided over it. Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Member, UGC and Dr. Gauranga Chandra Mohanta ndc, Project Director (Additional Secretary), HEQEP spoke on the occasion as the Special Guests. A K M Habibur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer, BdREN delivered the address of welcome.
Addressing the event, UGC Chairman observed that the software packages to be developed by BdREN will immensely benefit the learners and researchers of the universities in conducting their research activities and it will help to reach distance learning education to a large community in a cost-effective and efficient way. He urged the students, teachers and researchers to adopt latest technology for enhancement and attaining excellence in higher education and research.
Professor Dil Afroza Begum said that such kinds of software will help in expanding connectivity among the researchers in local and international arena. It will also play a role to stop plagiarism in research activities.
Professor Akhtar Hossain, in his presidential speech, stressed the need for making the teaching materials including ICT cost-effective. He also laid emphasis on keeping provision for updating the software packages if needed.
Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC and high officials from UGC and BdREN, among others were present on the occasion. Heads of Computer Science and Engineering Department and Directors of Institute of Information Technology from 30 public universities of the country attended the day-long workshop.
