Austria willing to invest in three public universities of Bangladesh

A-three member delegation from Austria called on Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh at UGC conference room today (28 February 2018).  Austrian Ambassador to Bangladesh Ms. Brigitte Oppinger-Walchshofer led the delegation. With UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan in the chair, Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah and Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Members, UGC and Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC, among others, were present on the occasion.  During the meeting, Reinhard Brazda, Communication Head of Division, Education and Training and Masood Mirza Akhtar, Economic Adviser and Consultant to Vace Systemtechnik, Austria, assisted the Austrian Ambassador.

During the meeting, Ms. Brigitte Oppinger-Walchshofer informed the UGC Chairman that Austrian Government is willing to enhance teaching, learning, governance, and laboratory facilities of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University, Gopalganj and Barisal University. With this end in view, a project will be initiated from July, this year. Austria will provide this financial support to Bangladesh as soft loan.

UGC Chairman, in his remarks, observed that UGC has been relentlessly working for expansion and internationalization of higher education as well as producing skilled manpower of the country. Terming the move as excellent, he said that the assistance will play a vital role for enhancement of higher education and research of the country.
