Workshop on Sustainability of BdREN Trust held at UGC
A day-long workshop on ‘Sustainability of BdREN Trust’ was held at UGC auditorium on 09 April 2018. Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) of UGC organized the workshop.
Professor Abdul Mannna, Chairman, UGC, graced the function as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Member, UGC, presided over it. Md. Abdullah Al Hasan Chowdhury, Additional Secretary (University), Ministry of Education, Dr. Gauranga Chandra Mahanta ndc, Project Director (Additional Secretary), HEQEP and Dr. Mokhlesur Rahman, Senior Operations Officer, World Bank, were the Special Guests. AKM Habibur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer, BdREN gave the address of welcome.
Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC, Vice-Chancellors from different public, private and international universities, high officials from MoE, UGC, HEQEP, Power Grid Company and research institutions, were present.
Professor Mannan, in his speech, said in virtual system, BdREN brought the higher educational institutions of the country together. It provided uninterrupted power and internet connectivity to the stakeholders of universities. “One can easily share their knowledge and views through BdREN.” He also said all have to work jointly for sustainability of BdREN connectivity.
Professor Akhtar Hossain said there is no alternative to BdREN as it is enhancing the quality of tertiary level education of Bangladesh. He also said BdREN connectivity is playing a significant role to have access to the world pool of knowledge.
BdREN is a high-speed data communication network being established under Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP). It is designed to meet up specialized requirements of the academic and research communities.
BdREN a component of HEQEP, established in 2012. It is supposed to close in December 2018. For operation and maintenance purpose, an 11-member “BdREN Trust” headed by UGC Chairman has been formed.
