ADB delegation meets UGC Chairman
A-six member ADB delegation led by Mr. Erik A Bloom, Senior Social Sector Specialist, Human and Social Development Division, South Asia Department, called on Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC on 10 April 2018.
The meeting was discussed action plan on the proposed three-year long ADB project on IT in nine universities of Bangladesh. Besides, ADB has expressed intrest to start an agricultural project. UGC has been made the implementing authority of the $250 million project.

Alamgir Akanda, Finance and Administrative Officer, ADB and Professor Dr. Md. Mozahar Ali, Consultant, ADB.
Professors Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Members, UGC; Professor Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin, Treasurer, University of Dhaka, Professor Dr. Saiful Islam, Vice Chancellor, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Professor Dr. M Anwar Hossain, Vice Chancellor, Jessore University of Science and Technology, Professor Dr. M M Shahidul Hassan, Vice Chancellor, East West University, Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Additional Director, International Cooperation and Collaboration (ICC), UGC, among others, were present.
Professor Abdul Mannan welcomed the delegation and thanked them for initiating the project for IT engineers and set up advanced institutions for science and technology. “The proposed project will play a significant role for country’s human resource development in IT sector. The universities would be able to produce quality graduates also.”
Mr. Erik A Bloom said ADB has a great desire to initiate the important project in two phases. “We want to start the first phase in four universities in September 2019 and we will start the second phase with five universities shortly.” Apart from financial support, ADB will also provide technical support.
