UGC Chairman attends SAU 3RD Convocation

Bangladesh student gets Gold Medal award

The third convocation of South Asian University (SAU) was held on 07 June 2018 at New Delhi's Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra auditorium. Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh and also a Board Member of SAU attended the Convocation.

The Education Minister of Nepal Mr. Giriraj Mani Pokhrel conferred Masters and Ph.D degree to 160 graduates at the convocation.

Of these, 6 received Ph.D degrees and 10 awarded M.Phil degrees from the university. The Ph.D degrees were awarded for the first time from this university and Md. Mainuddin from Bangladesh was also a recipient from Computer Science department. He was also awarded Gold Medal for his academic excellence.

Dr. Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, President, Indian Council of Cultural Relations and Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha was the Convocation Speaker while Professor Dr. Parashar Prasad Koirala, President, Board of Governors, SAU Presided over the Convocation.

Dr. Kavita A Sharma, President of the University gave the welcome address.  Mr. Amjad Hussain B Sial, Secretary General of SAARC also spoke on the convocation. Speakers emphasized on the importance of unity amongst SAARC nations to eradicate poverty, illiteracy and income inequality of the people of the region.

Mr. Md. Shamsul Haque, DG, (SAARC) attended the convocation as member of the Board representing Bangladesh.

South Asian University is an initiative of SAARC countries.

Temporarily housed in Akbar Bhavan of Indian External Affairs Ministry, the university is scheduled to relocate on one hundred acre permanent campus in South Delhi's Maidan Gari location in early part of 2019.
