Campus Network workshop kicks off at UGC

A day-long workshop on Campus Network Project kicked off on 18 September 2017 at UGC auditorium.  Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh graced the function as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Member, UGC presided over it. Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Member, UGC, Md. Mohiuddin Khan, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dr. Gauranga Chandra Mohanta, ndc, Project Director (Additional Secretary), HEQEP and Dr. Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, Senior Operations Officer, World Bank spoke on the occasion as the Special Guests. A.K.M Habubur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer, BdREN delivered the address of welcome.

Earlier, on 07 September 2017, the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) signed an agreement with ‘data edge limited’ for establishing campus network in 19 universities and IP telephony system. Under the agreement, the universities will come under high speed internet connectivity of Bangladesh Education and Research Network (BdREN), a component of HEQEP. Gradually, Campus Network will be setup all universities of the country.  

In his speech, the UGC Chairman said that teachers, students and researchers of the country will be immensely benefited due to uninterrupted high speed internet connectivity provided by BdREN. Besides, it will play a vital role for human resource development of the country. He urged all concerned to make the Campus Network user-friendly and ensure its optimum use. He also said that internet connectivity is a must to have access to the world pool of knowledge in today’s globalized world.

In his presidential speech, Professor Akhtar Hossain asked the Sub-Project Managers (SPMs) to work jointly for making the Campus Network activities qualitative.

Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC, Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC, Vice-Chancellors from universities, Sub-Project Managers of 19 universities, high officials of UGC, BdREN and HEQEP, among others, were present on the occasion.
