JSPS delegation calls on UGC Chairman

A-three member delegation from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), made a courtesy call on Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh at the latter’s office on 18 September 2017.

Dr. Makoto Takafuji, Associate Professor, Kumamoto University, Japan led the delegation. Dr. Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, JSPS Post-Doctoral Fellow and Professor of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, University of Dhaka accompanied Takafuji.

During the meeting, they discussed matters related to academic and research collaboration and highlighted the  JSPS/UGC joint research progress during the period of 2016. Mr. Takafuji said the tenure of JSPS programme will expire by 2017. He, at this time, requested UGC Chairman to take necessary step for further extension of JSPS scholarship programme through discussion with JSPS authority.

In reply, Professor Abdul Mannan said that more and more academic and research collaboration between the higher educational institutions of Bangladesh and those of Japan need to be established for internationalization of higher education. 

“We want the continution of JSPS collaborations and that it wouldn’t be terminated,” the UGC Chairman hoped and requested Dr. Takafuji to assist UGC in this matter.

JSPS offers Post-Doctoral Fellowships to Bangladeshi researchers to promote international scientific cooperation and conduct joint research activities with their colleagues at Japanese universities and research institutes.
