Advanced Training Workshop on Digital Library  held at UGC

A day-long ‘Advanced Training Workshop on Digital Library’ was held at UGC auditorium today (20 September 2017). University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh in association with Elsevier, a Netherland-based publishing house organized the workshop. Professor Abdul Mannna, Chairman, UGC graced the function as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr.Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC spoke on the occasion as Special Guest. Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Member, UGC, presided over the programme. Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC gave the welcome address.

Professor Mannan, in his speech, underscored the need for promoting and expediting the use of digital resources among the students, teachers and researchers to enhance their knowledge and skills in today’s world.  The demand of e-resources is growing in the country. Digital Library is the best way to overcome time, space and money constraints, he added.

Professor Mollah, in his speech, urged the librarians to take steps for boosting usage of e- resources in their respective institutions. He also urged the concerned authorities for building awareness on using e-resource and internet connectivity.

Professor Akhtar, in his presidential speech said that the objectives of Digital Library are to enhance the capacity building of the librarians and increase its usages.  He said that 84 organizations including 80 universities of the country are subscribing 35,000 e-resources through UGC Digital Library. He hoped that the number of institutions and contents will be increased in future.

Librarians from universities and other organizations participated in the workshop. High officials from Education Ministry, UGC and Bangladesh Academy of Sciences, among others, were present on the occasion.
