Conlcluding ceremony of Basic Training Programme on UGC Digital Library held at UGC

The concluding ceremony of a two-day Basic Training Programme on UGC Digital Library was held at UGC auditorium today (23 October 2017). University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh organized the professional training programme. Professor Abdul Mannna, Chairman, UGC distributed certificates among the participants as the Chief Guest. Librarians from 34 public universities of the country took part in the training programme. Dr. Gauranga Chandra Mahanta, ndc, Project Director (Additional Secretary), Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) presided over the programme.

Professor Mannan, in his speech, underscored the need for raising awareness about use of e-resources among the students, teachers and researchers of the university, who lag behind on using digital recourses. He said, the demand of e-resources is growing in the country and digital library enhances one’s knowledge and skills.

He said that digital content saves time, space and money. “We want to reach country’s tertiary education to a new height by 2021 and we want branding of our higher education.”

He urged the participants to utilize their skills acquired through the training programme for the development of e-library.

Dr. Gauranga Chandra Mohanta in his presidential speech under scored the need for  proper use of e-content.

At present, 84 organizations including 81 universities of the country are subscribing over 34,000 high-quality scholarly e-resources through UGC Digital Library.

Dr. S. M. Zabed Ahmed, Professor, Library and Information Science, University of Dhaka and Ms. Hasina Afroz, Librarian, BRAC University were the resource persons.
