UGC Chairman delivers key-note speech in Victory Day seminar in Kolkata

Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh said that the rise of Bangladesh in last 46 years from the ashes of our Liberation War is like the story of the rise of the mythical Phoenix bird. He was speaking as the keynote speaker in the Victory Day seminar organised by the Deputy High Commission for Bangladesh in Kolkata on 16 December 2017. Besides, Professor Mannan, Major (Retd) Rafiqul Islam,  Bir Uttam, MP shared his wartime experience with the audience gathered at the Deputy High Commission premises to enjoy the five-day program.

The seminar session was Chaired by Mr. Towfiq Hassan, Deputy High Commissioner for Bangladesh in Kolkata. Professor Mannan said if the Father of the Nation Bangabondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was not assassinated in 1975 Bangladesh would have become a High Income country by this time. He lauded the role of the current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina under whose leadership the country has achieved an enviable position in the global community.

Professor Mannan expressed his gratitude to the people of India, the Indian armed forces whose sacrifice has become an integral part of Bangladesh's history of its Liberation War. He paid tribute to the memories of the-then Indian Prime Minister who supported the cause of our Liberation war and contributed immensely in mobilising the global opinion in Bangladesh's favour.
