Meeting on proposed HEAT project held at UGC
A view exchange meeting on the proposed ‘Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT)’ project was held at UGC auditorium on 05 February 2019. The UGC invited the Vice-Chancellors, renowned educationists, Professors, high officials from UGC, World Bank and representatives from research organizations and industries and other relevant stakeholders to discuss the five-year long proposed HEAT project. Professor Abdul Mannan, Chairman, UGC graced the function as the Chief Guest while Professor Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC presided over the meeting and moderated the session. Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Member, UGC, Professor Dr. Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, Chairman, Bangladesh Accreditation Council, Professor Dr. Mohammad Tamim, Pro Vice-Chancellor, BRAC University, Professor Dr. Muhammed Zafar Iqbal and Dr. Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, Senior Operations Officer, World Bank, among others spoke on the occasion.
The Chairman of UGC noted that World Bank is taking the initiative to finance the HEAT project with a view to making a breakthrough in Bangladesh’s tertiary education and research through capacity building and enhancing employability of our graduates and establishing a regional network of higher educational institutions.
Other speakers, in their deliberations, observed that right type of education from primary to higher education, conducting advanced research, establishing university-industry collaboration cell, forming multi-disciplinary research team, ensuring good governance in universities, modernizing curriculum, providing research facilities for women are needed to accelerate the pace and momentum of the country’s higher education.
