International Nursi Conference on ‘Global peace and Harmony: ‘The Risala-i- Nur Perspective’ begins at Islamic University
The 2nd International Nursi Conference on ‘Global Peace and Harmony: The Risala-i-Nur Perspective’ was inaugurated on 28 January 2019 at the Birshrestho Hamidur Rahman Auditorium, Islamic University, Kushtia. The inaugural session was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University Dr. Md. Harun- ur- Rashid Askari while the Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh Professor Abdul Mannan was the Chief Guest. Faculty of Theological and Islamic Studies, Islamic University and Istanbul Foundation for Science and Culture are jointly organizing the conference. The keynote paper was presented by Dr. Alparslam Acikgenc. Among others, the Pro Vice- Chancellor of the Islamic University Dr. M. Shahinoor Rahman and Mr. Shamim Mohammad Afzal, Director General, Islamic Foundation spoke on the inaugural session. This year, Islamic scholars from seven countries and Bangladesh are participating in this two day conference where seventy papers will be presented.
UGC Chairman, in his speech said that Islam speaks of peace, tolerance, logic, brotherhood and co-existence not militancy, extremism and terrorism. He urged all to take teachings and lessons from life and works from Nursi, the great Turkish scholar. Professor Mannan stressed the need for more research in science, philosophy and logic to regain the lost glory of Islamic Civilization.
